Weekend Snapshot

Please scroll down for PhotoHunt

I haven't been anywhere or done anything interesting again this weekend. The weather was nice yesterday, my camera batteries were all fully charged - but I felt awful. In fact, I spent most of the day in bed, asleep. As regular readers of this blog know, I have a few health problems, one of them being chronic fatigue syndrome, also known as ME. For some reason, it's flared up a little bit lately, so I usually listen to my body when that happens, and rest. I feel a little bit more lively today, but I'm still going to take it easy, because I hope to get out and about with my camera tomorrow. So, because my weekend has been so uneventful, I thought I'd make this Weekend Snapshot all about my plans for Monday.

The weather forecast looks good for tomorrow. I'll need to be up bright and early, as I need to take my travel sickness pills after breakfast, and at least two hours before I travel. I'll be dressing up nice and warm, packing a flask of hot soup, my camera, batteries, phone and other essentials, before hopping on a bus to the nearby Gower Peninsula. Here are some of the sights I hope to see:

Looking back at Worm's Head

I doubt I'll have the energy tomorrow to walk far enough to capture a shot of Worm's Head from this angle. When I've posted pics of the Worm in the past, people have asked me why it's called Worm's Head. The name is believed to come from the old Viking name for it, Wurme, which means 'dragon'.

Sadly, these lovely flowers won't be around tomorrow, as they don't bloom until April or May.

Looking along a farm lane at some Muscovy ducks

The last time I walked along the lane in the above pic, I came face to face with a big, orange billy-goat. Needless to say, I turned around and fled.

No need to run away from this harmless creature, though.

Looking towards Tears Point

I'm determined to get as far as this point tomorrow, however tired I feel. I just hope the walk doesn't leave me feeling like this:

Oh well, that's all for this week. Hope everyone's enjoying their weekend.

Weekend Snapshot

Time for me to offer you my again. I'm afraid it's yet another weekend washout. It's rained almost continuously - and I'm not talking dainty little showers, either. The rain's so heavy, that not even my Leo will venture outside, and he's not normally bothered by the rain. I shot these videos of him sitting on my roof in the rain, a few weeks ago.

So I'm afraid, yet again, I have no interesting images of any weekend activities. You can thank the lovely British weather for that! But rather than waste too much time moaning about the weather, I've been busy working on my new website, messing about with CSS and other things I don't really understand too well. I'm quite pleased with the basic template I've come up with. Here are a couple of screen shots:

Anyway, yet another boring weekend stuck at home for me. Never mind. Hopefully, next weekend will be better.

Weekend Snapshot

Welcome to my Weekend Snapshot for this week. I'm in a truly horrid mood! No fun, happy weekend for me. My stupid neighbours are so noisy and inconsiderate. They've been hammering and drilling most of the day, from early this morning. They woke me up, and I didn't get to sleep until very late. They were also using some other nasty-sounding machinery, as well as running up and downstairs all the time. Oh - and did I mention the loud music?

As I was trying to go back to sleep, the phone rang. I couldn't be bothered to get up to answer it. Then the police helicopter hovered over my house. Then, when the noise finally died down, and I was just dropping off to sleep, the stupid phone rang again. Grr! Rather than rant and moan any further, I'll show you some pics of some nice, quiet places I wish I was today.

I want a house high on a clifftop, miles away from anyone. And a phone number that no-one knows!

Anyway, hope you're having a nicer weekend. I hope to be in a better mood soon.

Weekend Snapshot

I thought I'd give the Weekend Snapshot a go. Sunday is usually a very quiet day for this blog, so I thought I'd jazz it up a bit. Actually, Sunday is somewhat of a misnomer today. It has done nothing but rain all day, and for goodness knows how many days and weeks beforehand. Every rare sunny weekend we've had in the last few months - I've been too busy with other things to get out and about and enjoy it. Here's a place I love to visit, on a sunny weekend - Rhossili (pronounced Ross-silly), on the Gower Peninsula, about 15 miles or so from where I live.

The first good view of the four-mile long beach, comes just past the Worm's Head Hotel. It's not an easy beach to get to if you have any kind of health problems. It's a very steep climb back up from there, even with a path and lots of steps. I prefer to look out across the beach from this vantage point.

The path that meanders along the cliffs is easy enough for most people to follow, with only one or two mild slopes. It's not unusual to encounter para-gliders or rock-climbers along the way. Sheep frequently graze the cliffs. It helps to keep the grass nice and trim. Just watch out for the mountains of sheep poop.

Following the path gives you fabulous views of the tidal island of Worm's Head. At low tide, it's attached to the mainland by a rocky, slippery causeway, which can be traversed with a little care. As the causeway is only open for an hour or two either side of low tide, anyone intending to cross to the island needs to be aware of tide times. Volunteers at the Coastwatch hut, just above the path leading to the shore, will be more than happy to provide this information.

If it's a nice, busy summer weekend, I like to walk past the Worm, as we locals call it, and follow the coastline around to the next bay. I don't do this during the winter, unless I have someone with me, as it can be quite an isolated spot outside the main tourist season.

Here's my final destination on such a weekend walk - Fall Bay.

When I get the chance to visit this spot, I like to sit on this dramatic headland, which I believe is called Tear's Point, and look down on Fall Bay.

Hopefully, the rain will clear up soon, and I'll be able to bring you some new weekend pics, rather than these recycled ones. Happy Sunday!
