Sponsored posts?

I've been considering signing up to one of those sponsored blogging sites recently. I need to boost my income, and I know a few people who make a fair bit of money from it. But I'm scared of losing visitors if I participate in sponsored blogging. Would you think any less of this blog if you came across an occasional sponsored post? I wouldn't be replacing my own content with sponsored content. I would also be very careful in selecting topics for such posts. I would only post about products or services I felt offered genuine value to my readers. There would be nothing trashy promoted here! I would also try to make the posts interesting to a wider audience, not just those interested in the product being promoted. I know, from personal experience, that blogs which contain mostly sponsored posts, are not nice to visit.

Anyway, I'm still undecided about this. On the one hand, I want to make some money. On the other hand, I don't really want to hand over editorial control of my content to someone else. And I certainly don't want to alienate any of my lovely readers. As this blog is run on pretty democratic lines, I'll let you, the reader, decide. Please take a moment to vote in the poll above, and tell me how you feel. I would be very grateful for your input. Thanks!

I've made a good bit of money with PPP - but I also make sure that before you get to anything sponsored on my blog you have to scroll - there are absolutely no ads or paid posting upon the first look.

I came by to let you know, you can listen to coast to coast for free. The radio station in my area has a listen live link - only problem is because I'm Pacific time, the hours are thrown off a little. But go to www.kogo.com and find the times that coast to coast is on, then all you have to do his go to the interactive menu and ask to "listen live" no charge!

Oh wow - thanks, Frigga. I appreciate the heads up about C2C, as well as the info about PPP. I can easily check out time zones, etc. Once again - many thanks :).

I like your blog and I'll keep visiting whatever.
I don't like sponsored posts, but Frigga's idea seems good. Maybe you should give it a go.

Been over to Frigga, and I like her style. Unobtrusive and even enjoyable, which I never expected to say!

I don't think there's a problem as long as, like you say, they don't take over from your own posts!

Go for it!

Sponsored posting is paying off the medical bills from the birth of my 2nd child. I feel no shame in doing them and neither should you. That's just my 2 cents.

i'm also on the same boat as you are siani. i'm planning on resigning to practice my profession as a nursing which is one of the most low paying jobs herein our country. ergo, i need financial support. i also agree with natalie. so long as you don't do anything illegal i dont think there's wrong with paid posts. just make sure that you still incorporate your style. if we could choose soft sell ads then i'm up for it.

Well I for one would take great exception to it and never ever frequent your blog again. Not only that but I'll delete you from my list of blog links.

I'm only joking, It wouldn't bother me at all.

Most of time when I see sponsored posts I usually just skip the whole site but that is probably just me. Good luck with whatever you decide.
