Cefn Sidan

After leaving Gelli Aur Country Park, we decided to take a detour via Pembrey Country Park, and its glorious eight-mile long beach, Cefn Sidan. I was utterly amazed by Pembrey Country Park. It has fantastic facilities, and it's absolutely gorgeous. The beach is incredible. It's vast, and so clean. I saw none of the litter that scars so many of Gower's beaches.

On the subject of Gower, Cefn Sidan offers fantastic views towards North Gower and Worm's Head. I could also see Cefn Bryn, Rhossili Down, plus Llanmadoc and Whiteford Sands.

Anyone have any idea what this puffy thing is? I thought it was some kind of shell, but when I prodded it, it was so brittle and fragile, it fell apart. Is it animal, vegetable or mineral?

Although these images don't show them, I could see hang-gliders in the distance, taking off from Rhossili Down.

Jake found plenty to amuse himself. I'll have to once more confess my ignorance about marine life because I have no idea what the thing he's playing with is called. It seems to be a clump of some kind of maritime plant-life. Whatever they're called, Jakey kept finding these strange, brain-like objects scattered around the beach, and took great delight in ripping them to shreds.

Look, mam, I found the greatest, bestest ever - what is it?

Don't worry. I'll save you from it.

There. I just deaded the evil, vicious whatzit-monster.

Shortly afterwards, the temperature started to drop, so we decided it was time to head home. Unfortunately, Jake started to limp again, so I carried him back to the car, anticipating a trip to the vet. He slept all the way home, and seems fine again, now. I'll keep an eye on him, and if he starts to limp again, I'll take him to the vet.

Lovely post Siani. Jake is an absolute love!
The white thing is the skeleton of one of the sea urchins - sea potato, sea mouse, many names. The vicious wotzit-monster is a clump of empty whelk eggs.

Ah, Dragonstar has answered your questions already!

Hope Jake is fine today. He is a cutie.

Thanks for the info, Dragonstar. I really am ignorant about the things that wash up on our shorelines. Show me a plant or bird, and chances are, I'll know what it is. But anything from the sea, is a wotzit!

The best thing about Jake, is the fact that he has a lovely, sweet nature, and so much character. Although he's mischievous, he doesn't have a nasty bone in him.
