Sleepless in Swansea

I've done bugger all today, to put it bluntly, due to a severe lack of sleep last night. I don't sleep in my bedroom on Fridays and Saturdays, because it's at the back of the house, and the students who live behind my house make a hell of a lot of noise at the weekend. So, every Friday and Saturday, I set up camp for the night on my sofa. It's comfortable enough, so I usually manage to sleep. Not last night.

First of all, there was a lot of thumping of car and house doors along the street, as well as taxis pulling up and beeping their horns. Normally, I could live with that, but Jake decided it was his duty to growl, woof and snarl at every noise he heard. Then, around 22.30, some silly little scooter boy started riding his moped up and down the street. He seemed to be treating my street, and the one below it, as his own personal race circuit, and whizzed past my house once every five minutes or so, until about 01.30. I swear, if I'd had a gun, I'd have shot his tyres. Jake was already wound up, but he hates motorcycles of any kind, so he started performing. He started the cats off. They kept demanding to be let in and out, and making a hell of a noise by yowling, and drumming on doors and windows.

I was just settling down to sleep, around 03.00, when a drunken disturbance erupted outside. Of course, Jake went into full bark mode again. He's twice the size of most Shih Tzus, so he doesn't have the typical, squeaky little Shih Tzu bark. He's loud, so I was then worried about him disturbing the neighbours. It took a few minutes to calm him down, but by that time, he wanted to go out for a pee. After letting him out, and back in again, I was wide awake. I think it must have been around 06.15 before I finally closed my eyes, and I was up and about again just before 09.00, ready to take Jake for a walk. I was so fed up, I bought myself a couple of madeleines at the local bakery - and scoffed them. I think Jake is ready to bed down for an early night, as he usually does when it's wet and windy outside. Let's hope Scooter-Boy doesn't embark on one of his wacky races again tonight.

I managed to grab a couple of hours yesterday afternoon. Last night wasn't great, but better than the night before. I think the weather was too wet and windy for drunken idiots and scooter boys. The rain does have some positive effects!

Is there any way to get the students to shut up? Environmental Health?
